William and Jean Howat had at least five children: Janet (b 1803), Euphemia (b 1805), Helen (b 1809), William (b 1811), and John (b 1813). The first two children were born in St Quivox (nearly 20 miles west of Muirkirk) and Old Monkland (about 22 miles north of Muirkirk). The other three children were born in Muirkirk. William Howat is the only sibling who I have found who went on to have a family of their own. I have not been able to find evidence of what happened to the others - though there were two marriages involving a Euphemia Howat in Muirkirk in 1826 and 1828.
