1841 Census The Census shows William and Janet Howat living in Riccarton with two children, Lillias and Jean. The third, James, who was born on 5 Feb 1839 and christened on 24 Feb 1839, had presumably passed away shortly after. My original research has another child Hugh who was born around 1841. In retrospect, in view of being unable to find any evidence, I wonder if I haven’t made a mistake. If so, there must have been another birth as Grace Howat is recorded as being the ninth child born to William and Janet though I haven’t found one yet.
