Janet Howat died on 25 Mar 1898 in Maxwood Rows, Galston. This was accommodation for coal miners at the Maxwood Pit. The 1901 Census shows that Janet’s grandson Robert Bruce, a collier, was living in Maxwood Rows. The witness John Paton was the second husband of Janet Bruce (1871 - 1941) who was Janet Howat’s grand-daughter.
