Joseph's parents were George and Jane Johnson but the family had been in Hetton le Hole since at least 1841 Census.! BIG MISTAKE or coincidence? 1871 Census - Peter Johnson Peter Johnson 79 Head Groom Hurworth, Durham, Groom (Dom Serv) Mary Johnson 67 Wife Kirby Moorside, Yorkshire Catherine Johnson 4 Grand daughter Scholar Hetton-le-hole Catherine Johnson is the daughter of Jane Johnson who is no longer living with her parents Peter and Mary Johnson. Where is Jane Johnson? I believe she married James Parkin on 19 Aug 1867 in Houghton le Spring. They had at least seven children. In 1871 James and Jane Parkin were living in Hetton-le-Hole with two of their children. In the 1891 Census Jane Parkin, a widow and ‘insane inmate’, was living in the Union North House, Bishop Wearmouth, Sunderland. I suspect Peter Johnson died in 1875 aged 82-3 but this is not confirmed.
