David and Catherine Nutt had at least 5 children, most of whom had large families.
Andrew Nutt married Margaret Jane Reynolds on 4 Mar 1890. He was a fireman/stoker in a linen factory. The family lived in Fountain St,
Londonderry.
Margaret Jane Nutt married a baker, Robert Campbell on 17 Sep 1989. Originally living in Waterside, Londonderry, one child was born in Letterkenny
before they moved back to Gortnaskey around 1905.
William Lindsay Nutt married Rebecca McClements on 21 Dec 1900 in Cumber
Presbyterian Church. William worked as a general labourer. They had one child,
Catherine, born 22 May 1901. Rebecca died in Gortnaskey, aged just 22, of meningitis
on 28 Nov 1901. Their daughter died in Gortnaskey of broncho-pneumonia, aged 10
months, on 13 Apr 1902. After these traumatic events William and his brother David
moved to Glasgow to work on the docks but on 15 Apr 1905 William Lindsay Nutt
died in the Western Infirmary from a fracture at the base of his skull. This was the
result of 'Drink and Quarrelling' outside a pub on Govan Road.
David Nutt married Matilda Watt on 14 Jun 1901 in Glasgow. Just prior to the
marriage David had been boarding with John Clements (another quay labourer) and
his family in Blackburn St, Govan. Could John Clements be related to Rebecca
McClements? It may be that the Mc was dropped from the name in a similar way to
the addition one family member made when he added it and became a McNutt.
David and Matilda Nutt lived in Plantation St, Govan, and he worked all his life on
the docks, latterly as a stevedore's foreman. In the 1911 Census it states that they
had six children, five of whom were still alive.
