On 10 Jan 1897 Alma and Emma Harlington
had four of their children, and two from Alma’s
first marriage, baptised in the Anglican faith in
the parish of Goole. Alma was described as a
'ship-smith' and their address was given as Alma
House, Percy Street, Old Goole. This record was
useful as it gives the years of births of their
children. One wonders why they decided to
have so many children (whose ages ranged
from less than 1 year old to 13) baptised at this
time?
Cleasby and Doris who appeared in the 1891
and 1901 Censuses with the surname
Harlington were the children of Emma and
William Pratt, born in Bradford. They may well
have been baptised there.
