William Henry/Hendry (1803-1883)
This William Henry was born in Symington, Ayrshire in 1803 the son of James Henry and Janet Wilson, baptised 3 May 1801. In Censuses he regularly
gives his age as two years less than it actually was. Or I’ve got the wrong parents - though this was the only William Henry born (and baptised) in
Symington 1800-1810.
He married Mary McGee on 29 Apr 1841 when he was 40 and she was 18. They had at least four children (daughters, Mary, Jean, Janet and Margaret
Wilson) and lived most of their lives in Bank Street, Kilmarnock. From the ages there is the possibility William was previously married.
He was a weaver. Initially he was a carpet weaver (1851) but is listed as a muslin weaver and venetian weaver in later censuses.
He died in Kilmarnock on 31 Mar 1883.
William Henry/Hendry (1796 - )
William Henry was born in Ireland and maybe married his wife there before moving to Ayrshire where he appears in the 1851 Census with three
daughters. He was a ‘Dealer in Earthen Ware’. I haven’t located any family members in previous or subsequent censuses.
