Mary Ann Hendry died on 27 May 1855 of chronic peritonitus in High Glencairn St, Kilmarnock. Her parents were given as John Smith and Agnes McCrae. She had been born in Strabane, Northern Ireland but had lived in Kilmarnock parish for 35 of her 38 years. William’s occupation was labourer. On the 6 May 1858 at the age of 48 William Hendry, now a widower, married Mary Drysdale in Kilmarnock. He is an engine keeper. She was aged 20, having been born in Ireland. Her parents, both dead, were Robert Drysdale (a sailor) and Jane (née Edmond). His parents are Peter Hendry (coal miner) and Janet Hendry (née Gillespie) (both dead). In 1851 Mary Drysdale, aged 14, was living with her widowed mother Jean Drysdale, a lodging house keeper, and three siblings in 42 Low Glencairn St, Kilmarnock. Mary, her mother and younger brother Robert were born in Ireland. The two younger siblings were born in Stranraer and Kilmarnock. Mary’s mother died in 1857.
