William Hendry = Margaret McClelland
The only information so far about this couple comes from the marriage record of their son, also called William Hendry. The father, William Hendry,
was a labourer and both parents had died prior to 1863.
William Hendry (ca1826 - 1895) = Agnes Connor (ca1831 - 1903)
According to Census returns William Hendry was born in Ireland sometime around 1826.
Finding him in the records has proved problematic until his marriage to Agnes Connor in Hamilton, Lanarkshire in 1863. Agnes had previously
married Patrick Smith on 26 Nov 1857 and produced a child Agnes Smith on 12 Oct 1858. I don’t know what happened to Patrick. The marriage
record details for Agnes’ parents needs further investigation as other records show them to be Patrick Connor and Rose Murray rather than John
Murray and ? Smith.
William and Agnes Hendry had at least 8 children :

The birth of James Hendry in Mill St, Tillicoultry which is nearly 40 miles from Bothwell, confirmed by the birth registration, has led to an investigation
as to why they may have made this journey. A Robert Hendry had been living in Mill St around that time. He had married Janet Winkie on 23 Nov
1862 and was the father of Isabel Paterson Hendry (b 1862) and another Robert Hendry (b 1864). The father Robert died on 28 Aug 1864 of heart
disease aged 26. Could William and Agnes Hendry have travelled for his funeral? Robert’s wife Janet lived until 1926. The family appeared to be
Presbyterian. The investigation to see if William Hendry and Robert Hendry are related continues.
