William Hendrie (1829 - 1884)
This potential candidate for the father of WIlliam Bruce Hendrie is a contender because he is of a suitable age and also he was a collier.
William Hendrie was born ca 1829 on the Isle of Arran, the son of John Henry (a seaman) and Ann Anott. They had at least four children.
In 1851 William Hendrie was living with his married sister and her family in Stevenston which is about 18 miles to the west of Galston, near Saltcoats.
He is described as an agricultural labourer but in the next two censuses he was a collier. He married Sarah Duncan in 1861
