This view of Boulby Bank illustrates the steepness of the cliffs at Whitby where houses have
had to be built on very steep slopes and often right up against the cliffs. Some of the
houses appear to be tenements with wooden staircases and galleries giving access to the
upper floor accommodation. These houses were demolished in 1958.
